"Living in Truth—Even Inside a Russian Cage"

Well Bari, I am little more interested what is going on in US and our cage. Especially, since at same time we are witnessing how our own country is dealing with whistleblowers. Snowden in Russia (showed American people truth, that our government is spaying on us), Assange is in prison in UK, for showing us dirty secrets of DNC and our war machine. That leaker from last week is getting shredded on every signe MSM.

After these mentioned cases, will you say that we are in much better position? That being dissident to our government is save and sound job?

Lets plese stop looking what is going on with Russian dissidents, but look what our government is doing to ours, because there were plenty of dissidents and whistleblowers at home, who were delt very swiftly and in many cases with absolute support of the media. God knows how many people would be willing to step out, but watchign what is beeing done to Assange alone, brings cold sweat.

Perhaps one should tell Nicole that writing the way one speaks isn't the best way to communicate. "Like, y'all."

Sorry, I know I'm being a dick but I don't find this cute or endearing.

Just depressing.

Writers on strike. If they value their talent versus the crap on TV, maybe they should be happy with whatever they are being paid and still employed. Very little creativity, tons of remakes that suck, and people actually watching old series because they were and are better. Please go on strike and stay there.

Living in Truth, bravery and courage that needs to replicated more in this world. However, we also prosecute those who descent. By the FBI infiltrating Catholic Churches, Parents as right wing racists, IRS investigating conservative groups, arresting those who dare to pray at abortion clinics, Govt destroying businesses during COVID, peoples lively hood and freedoms abused during COVID, Govt paying pharmaceuticals billions and lying about effectiveness, Vietnam, Iraq, and so many, many more examples of the same type of Govt repression and totalitarian controls. We need to immediately send BLM and ANTIFA to Russia to straighten Putin out. The woke mobs can fix all of this. Look at the success they have had in fixing Chicago, NY, SF.............

AI and the net. I always tell everyone, believe none of it. If you can not verify by some method, consider it all to be BS. Plain and simple.

Enjoyed Rob Longs piece. Just curious where all the dEI( emphasis on the E) actors are supporting the writers and more importantly sharing their mega wealth. I have no idea what screen writers make but their work product( at least the good ones) is what makes movies great. I would also be interested to know if the writers fear that AI will make them dinosaurs

Nobody has to try to kill trust, we're just not a trustworthy society anymore. We've always had corruption, spin, deceit, narcissism, greed, recklessness, and arrogance, just like everyone else, but those things are our identity now... Everything is about the narrative a person can weave, or the act they put on, and what all that can get them. And most everyone else just accepts it, probably because at least half of them are doing it too.

When I have clicked links on here before it only takes me to part of the story and then the site I am on wants me to buy a subscription. Say you link a story to the Wall Street Journal etc. That I don't want if I click a link I want to read the rest of the story. You have expressed your disappointment about about people just getting everything in their emails and not going to the Free Press site so let the link take us to the FULL article on the Free Press site. Everyone is happy that way.

I would suggest that TFP adopt a more serious promotional language. After reading about the staggering courage of Kara-Murza, it puts me off to see a phrase like “if you are hungry for more great content…” I don’t appreciate the folksy corporate sales speak that casts the reader literally as a “content consumer.” This is serious journalism after all, right?

I am a subscriber and the read more buttons do not work on the Substack app. Any way to just make these text links as those work.

Thank you Free Press and great idea Nicole Jones (we could be best friends.) I only want Bari to be my algorithm. I wish I could see the rest of these stories. The READ MORE links don’t work on my iPhone.

A major factor in the decline of trust is "diversity". People without shared culture and values naturally trust each other less.

Everything works for me, so three cheers for Nicole Jones! A wonderful idea. Thank you.

The trouble is the woke of the world have sold themselves and their souls to be part of the problem. Self delusion is a dangerous thing.

Nothing against writers employed by the alphabet networks and major studios in Hollywood, but when I look at the amount of garbage produced year after year one has to wonder about the whole approach to ‘entertainment’ as the industry sees it. Watch any network series on TV and you’d be hard pressed to guess if it was written by a human or AI. I for one don’t care to experience on screen a predictable retread fantasy world in which happy endings, mandated diverse casting, wokish morality lessons, political leanings masquerading as teachable (preachable?) moments, etc....are as mundane as reading a children’s bedtime story about a big furry monster who becomes friends with all the kiddies he/him/she/her/they/them/ frightened in the beginning. And ‘reality TV’? Even it is scripted. Superhero franchises? No thanks.

I’m assuming a fair amount of writers looking to stay employed are like so many highly skilled, jazz musicians who end up touring with pop bands making music for 13 yr. olds. Gotta make a living.

If it wasn’t for the streamers, who are still allowed to take risks and create less formulaic content that may take you to dark places and leave its audience uncomfortable, I’d have nothing to watch.

The imminent strike is yet another example of the belt tightening and attrition affecting all of us who aren’t part of the privileged few profiting mightily off our misery.
