Just when I was getting used to a double standard!

No, you misunderstand. I'm all for this "Free Speech" revolution. People should be able to say whatever they want, however they want, to whomever they want - no matter the situation/context. Airplanes, workplaces, grocery stores, daycares, etc. Let's get this "Free Speech" on!!!

Before all of you continue your Musk-worship over his purchase of Twitter, it might be better if you wait to see how his stewardship of the platform shakes out over time.

Love it! What a crazy, exhilarating time to live...no one could make this up!

God bless Musk , Trump and any one else who has the power to stand up to the crazies who are allowed to spread the garbage that is happening on social media, in the streets of our cities, in schools, at work, in education . All nonsense . There is hope though , more and more truth is coming out because most people had enough. In reality most people just want to close their eyes and ears and wake up from this bad dream. In the famous words of Lia Thomas if you don't agree , you can suck my D.....!

And our government responds a la "1984":

"Elon responds to Biden's new "Disinformation Governance Board" that was created immediately after the Dogelord bought Twitter"

Guys… I think we just got a Ministry of Truth

There's a lady in the Department of Homeland Security that now runs something called the "Disinformation Governance Board."

Musky Elon sued Top Gear for giving a firm honest review of the Tesla Roadster and he lost (twice). Not exactly a free speech champion.

I am not familiar with the case but in a free country we are all entitled to sue. The Babylon Bee was given the boot by Twitter for a satire piece about Richard Levine winning "Man of the Year" after US News ridiculously awarded him "Woman of the Year" which is an affront to all women.

It's also about accountability. Musk has promised to make the algorithms transparent, and he will likely expose how the service was was tweaked to favor woke narratives and shadowban unwoke incovenient facts.

I know one very fantastic way to escape all of the lunacy, posturing and performing taking place on Twitter. Log off. Delete the app. I may still have to read about all of the idiocy taking place there on, say, one of my favorite Substack newsletters, but oh I can’t tell you the relief I feel not having to experience it al firsthand.

Elon Musk is a problem solver. The left are problem makers.

I am enjoying some of the observations on Twitter:

If you think you're having a bad day, spare a thought for the Twitter person who decided it was a good idea to ban the Babylon Bee

and

We @thebabylonbee

writers are just hanging out in twitter jail, anything exciting happening on the outside?

One would think that someone who is the world leader in making electric cars would be a hero on the Left. Not so. What the hell are they thinking?

Anyone who is reading this should read Elon Musk's mother's book "A Woman Makes A Plan" and about how Elon Was raised... it will give you insight as to why Free Speech might be mightily important to him. They were not privileged people. . .sometimes they were, sometimes they were not, the kids in his family fought hard to become who they are... because they had opportunity and grit and they saw the US as a free land filled with opportunity. It is obviously fraught with modern perils, yet we still have a chance to keep deepening our culture. Our free culture filled with opportunities. It's all about the perspective we have . . . and perhaps in Elon's case, he utilized the genius god gifted him... and the fact that he actually used that genius to become something. It's astoundingly incredible and should be praised. He could be living in South Africa or Canada... and spending 11 billion -last year... in tax money on those countries... but he's here, why is here? Because of our constitution.. and free speech... One more thought. . . how many billionaires do you know who are willing to risk, their reputation, business, company, everything they built for the citizens of a democratic nation to keep their value of Free Speech... It is trully EPIC... if it works, he will be heralded as a true hero in the history books.

I know the social media companies blocked all discussion about the files and email links on Hunter Biden's computer, thus forming a narrative that contributed to Mr. Biden winning the presidential election.

But as an old man, I never closely examined the Twitter site until this morning. After about three hours of browsing, all I can say is:

"Lord have mercy on Mr. Musk."

Most of what I saw was one crowd yelling "your mother wears combat boots," and the other side exclaiming "at least I know who my mother is."

Come to think of it, some of the comments I've read in Substack's various sections devolve into Twitter-like textual battles. 🤔

As a retired business fellow, I could not resist trying to calculate how much time is wasted on social media. Unfortunately my calculator stopped working at 10 to the 56th power.

The only social benefit I could imagine for social media sites is that they have greatly reduced the number of back yard picket fence discussions that devolve into fist fights.

Elon Musk will need to gain the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job if he is to be successful at reforming the rowdy Twitter crowd.

If Musk truly opens up twitter's algorithms and inner manipulations, it will be revealed that its purpose is a Deep State propaganda machine. Those powerful forces will not let that happened. I predict if Musk tries to go that far he will be arrested on trumped up charges or "commit suicide".

I hope your prediction never comes to pass, BillS. I don't want to believe my beloved country has become so tainted.

Another excellent article. You always have a clarity that most commentators lack. Free speech isn't a perfect concept, but it's the best we have.
