What actually happened was the Greg Abbott Leviathan stomped on the rights and wellbeing of a young person, family, and doctor. He broke the law by invading their guaranteed legal privacy and depriving them of treatment without knowing them or the case and, like the arrogant cunt that he is, claimed HE knew what the right treatment for the kid was. What business was it of his? Are we now deputizing people to inform on their fellow citizens Nazi style?

It does sound like the hospital was breaking TX law, but to what degree is this happening at the hospital? If this is the only case, that matters--a lot. And if it's widespread, which is the case Haim SHOULD be making here--not screaming about an oddball case--then where is the proof of that?

Now, Herr Trump has pronounced that there are only two genders. Dictator much? Is this the beginning of genuine debate or rule by fiat. As usual, the right wants to decide what's correct for everyone--there are only two genders; that's a fact; that's a law; and that's it--while those who support transgender rights and treatment are not trying to impose this treatment or status on anyone else. Trump's very effective ad about "they/them v you" was, as usual, a lie, and now he's turning his lies into law.

This is very good news. Thank you, Emily!

One of the sadder parts of the politicization of the law is the elimination of critical civil rights like patient privacy. My private medical records (and yours) shouldn’t be suspect to widespread distribution — in whole or in part — due to a political activist seeking to push a political agenda.

No patient privacy was violated. No personal information was exposed or released. Dr. Haim is a hero for exposing the abuse and multilation of children. Many of these children are/will be sterile for life, many will regret having this done, some will attempt reversal, and sadly, some will commit suicide. And they will still be the same biological sex they were born with.

The Biden administration was completely off its nut, corrupt to the core. Hopefully the Trump administration can weed out as much of the rotten bastards as possible.

I'm glad the guy got his case dismissed, BUT is it appropriate for the Free Press to link to his fundraiser? Something about it seems off for a news outlet that is supposed to be neutral and non partisan..

Is it partisan to rejoice in the freeing of a potential prisoner? I think not. If you do not want to support Dr. Haim, you don't have to do so. I appreciate the opportunity to do so.

So far the Trump outrages have been more than counterbalanced by the good things, like this, that he has done. Now someone needs to go after that hospital for retaliating against a whistleblower, which is not legal.

Reading through the comments with real interest. Question keeps repeating in my mind: Is there no way to sanction the attorneys who carried out this lawfare scheme? What outrageous behavior qualifies a prosecutor for disbarment and personal liability? This, obviously, is not the only lawfare episode, not the only 'the process is the punishment' situation featuring extra-legal measures employed to punish an individual via the legal system.

I'm a layperson, not a lawyer, and have seen this scenario repeat and repeat , both in criminal and civil situations.

How can the playing field be leveled?

It would have been better to have the Win with the jury….UNLESS…the Trump admin now fires and tries to disbar the attorneys that filed in the first place.

We the people need to be very careful who we vote for. As much as Trump can do very quickly, the government needs to be small enough it doesn’t have time to do this ever again!

I don’t understand why Haim was prosecuted but Jamie Reed was given whistleblower status.

Anyone know?

Could anyone (and I mean anyone) now go and find and do a story about any of the children? If not, how could he have violated their privacy?

Eithan didn’t win anything . He was on his way to being crushed when he was rescued by an outsider.

Thank you for covering this. You have no idea how frustrating it has been for conservatives like me to see story after story censored over the last 30 years if it looked bad for the Democrats. To finally have a neutral news source is extremely encouraging.

Unfortunately Dr Haim illegally accessed the data by breaking into the system with a bogus id and then accessed patients who were not his patients. Then disclosed the data publically. This is illegal regardless of the patients public privacy.

He broke some work rules set by a corrupt hospital administration. It would be a fantastical stretch to prosecute that as a crime. Most whistleblowers break some internal rules to expose corrupt practices. That is part of the reason why Dr. Haim was acting bravely in the pursuit of truth and justice. Also, it is common practice for doctors to see information on people who are not their own patients. There is nothing illegal about that..

He did it in defense of children. The Biden DoJ should be in prison for bringing charges.

But that wasn't the charge. The charge was a HIPPA violation.

THERE WAS ZERO HIPPA VIOLATIONS. All of the names had been redacted.

This was an extremely frightening abuse of power. The next Exec Order PDT needs to sign is that there will be no government funding to hospitals, medical schools and residency programs that force residents and students to take part in gender reassignment medicine.
