LA fires: Democrats way of promoting urban renewal.

Nick Reiner: He should not have been allowed to walk freely in civil society. Who murders his parents, a child with daddy issues or one severely, mentally disturbed?

Bondi: Perhaps Australia’s leaders are equivocating or like Western leaders in the late 1930’s are in reality JewHaters.

Cornell: A proving ground for future Bondis’

Minnesota: They’re trying to emulate the Confederacy via states rights/nullification. It appears to be perverse.

Has everyone forgotten the August 2023 Fires in Lahaina, Maui Hawaii? They were in August 2023, 2.25 years of experience in rebuilding is finally showing some signs of progress compared to LA.

The issues for the locals and reconstruction efforts in Lahaina are likely a good guide to the issues and delays in progress in LA. I would expect the same issues in permitting and reconstruction, plus insurance red tape and a lack of materials and skilled workers are similar for both communities.

Perhaps someone at the Free Press can compare the progress and time frames of both fires. We might be able to learn some things that have worked in either place that the other can use.

Democrat city/state (LA Mayor Bass/Governor Newson) government incompetence was responsible for the unconscionable property devastation in the Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Altadena. Even though citizens and city officials were warned (days prior) about the impending Santa Ana fire threat, LA Mayor Karen Bass was unfazed and traveled to Ghana on a vacation trip. But, even worse, the Pacific Palisades Reservoir was EMPTY for over a year while repairs were never made. But most unbelievable is the fire hydrants in the Palisades were not operable and had inefficient levels of water power. So one would think that voters would be irate and demand accountability from Bass and Newson. Nah......Karen Bass is running for reelection and leading in the polls.

Cuba has been going downhill since the richest communist on the island died several years ago. His little brother was useless. Now the island's communists are just playing out the string until they can escape with what ever loot they have and let Cuba become another communist success story.........

My old partner when I was a LEO was born in Cuba. He came here when he was 5 years old with his parents and sisters. We were in Miami on a case and were talking about what would happen if the Castros lost power and Cuba became a democratic country and he said that “All the old people would go back to Cuba and all the young ones would stay here. We’re Americans.”

He turned me into a fan of Cuban food and culture. Warm, wonderful people and the food is amazing. I hope Cuba gets another bite of Life’s Apple.

Regarding the LA fires, I know that a big problem was that there was insufficient water due to one of the impoundments being out of commission. So, why didn't they pump seawater? Plenty of water close to the houses that burned.

That would require the government to be responsive. They haven’t had a free thinker in their government for decades.

I posted a brief comment the other day noticing that The entire The Free Press newsroom seems to think taking off for the entire holiday week plus is a good idea

News needs to be covered

Nellie Bowles herself liked and commented one word

FAIR

I express my appreciation for the response

Our comments are read by the bosses l

Which makes me wonder why there was no response at all when hundreds of loyal Common sense- Free Press subscribers posted- emailed etc to complain about the censorship policy that was instituted on the readers comments - with no notice or explanation ??

By my count, Nellie liked 128 (!) comments (including a couple of mine) made responding to the FP newsroom additions article a coupe of days back.

I guess that's our little stay-at-home-mom dividend.

Which story has the comments about a censorship policy?

Expand full comment
Disa sacks's avatar

The censorship began early in 2024

Many of us posted about it multiple times . Many sent emails

This went on for months

No response

Hundreds unsubscribed and opened their own substack ( Jotting in Purple)

I was censored for liking and reiterating a comment about Hamas

The email informing me that I was punished was rude and condescending

There was no forewarning that a censorship policy was starting , no delineation of the rules

Many found it odious and hypocritical - esp the way it was done

We list many of the best commenters who supported Bari Weiss from the moment she left The NYT and started Common Sense blog

That’s the summary as I recall it

Did Maduro ever congratulate his fellow Venezuelan Maria Machado on her Nobel Prize? Maybe invited her to Caracas for a parade to honor her and to also celebrate democracy in Venezuela? And yet now we have thousands of Americanos( not many who speak Spanish of course ) having a tizzy that the Great Dictator may be facing justice. Assuming there is a trial who will be called as character witnesses for the defense : lots of Hollywood Chavistas or Congrssional Democratic Socialists? Hopefully the many Venezuelans who themselves suffered the brutality will have the chance to testify before the world . But will the MSM even cover the trial ( or if they do ignore those testimonies of dictatorial fiat )? Viva Venezuela. And Viva Cuba as well.

How anyone in California can vote for another Democrat again after one year of zero effort of help on the worst fires in its history is beyond me. It was hard to tell who looked more foolish…Karen Bass or Gavin Newsom. But given that Newsom is the governor and has destroyed more in California besides the aftermath of the fires, he gets the award. He and Mumzani are cut from the same cloth. God help us if this phony somehow becomes president.

Bleonard3's avatar

It can. Example: in that in many precinct/city/district elections only Dem candidates on ballot, so people always just vote Dem or not at all as minority parties are infrequently in contention. If you limit voting options, many will give up voting and low turnout occurs which skews to party in power.

In last Chicago mayoral runoff election in 2023, 39% of registered voters voted. Johnson won with 52% of the votes cast, so was elected by roughly 20% of all registered voters.

Last I heard Johnson had single digit approval ratings. It’s hard to be less effective than Lori Lightfoot, but he did it.

Let’s not discount the effect of gerrymandering, and the limited choices voters are presented by design from ruling parties.

Because too many voters (not only in CA) never read or try understand the stories, simply go by the headlines to which they are exposed. When the author of the fire report for the City investigations resigns because the pols rewrote it to eliminate their failings that is pretty indicative of the cynicism they hold for their voters.
