"Critics have panned the new Michael Jackson biopic as “disingenuously airbrushed,” because it doesn’t mention any of the allegations leveled at the deceased pop star. But the box office tells a very different story:"

The two are not mutually exclusive. It's almost a rule for biopics to be 'disingenuously airbrushed' and the audience does not care for accuracy, only enjoyment.

Gambling is a blight, pure and simple.

As a resident of a State that has had Casinos for a long time, compliments of circumventing laws due to the presence of Indian-owned land, we have a bunch of Casinos, and the white man is getting scalped: karma, the natives call it. One Casino alone had over $250,000,000 of revenue.

No politician dare criticizes the operations, because "Hey, dude, it's for the children." School money with part of the profits, albeit not large. It's not quite like Vegas, as the days show mountains of Seniors, gambling away their days. Some are well-heeled, but many are desperate and scraping by.

You see loads of wheelchairs, an entertainment perfect for those confined to them. It's not like the glamorous commercials. Addiction problems? Some estimate as high as 15% of gamblers: a chunk of profits is set aside for those who lose their way. 95% of areas are smoky, as these addicts are trying to shorten their lives in multiple ways.

Re: NYC? if given the chance, Casinos will explode there and Commie Mamdani will find a way to tax every aspect of them, including massive money for the poor "victims" of gambling. my prediction about gambling overall?

Watching it infiltrate pro and college sports and the damage there, eventually there has to be laws to curtail its influence, even though Americans love to gamble, as a whole. Good luck on the Casinos, I think they're an insult to strong minded people and prey on weak minded ones.

Ah, yes. Ralph Bakshi's Wizards was a college campus Friday movie classic.

No better place for a new Pottersville than the Big Rotten Apple. Slots! Roulette! And featuring the World-Renowned Magician, Zohran the Magnificent! All are Welcome! Step right off! I mean Up!

Crumb’s “Fritz the Cat” was good. Bakshi’s “Fritz the Cat” was bad.

To name drop Fritz The Cat and not reference R. Crumb drawings…shame.

I never understand the obsession with casinos and the largely incorrect narrative of game. The overwhelming majority (98,5% by most government estimates) enjoy gambling and do so responsibly. It is an adult activity which people do willingly with their own hard-earned money in place of other things they might do with the same money.

Has AI become so ubiquitous that even seeing the hotel video of the guy flying through the metal detector and shooting a Secret Service agent while trying to crash the ballroom where the President is on a dais cannot be considered actual proof beyond "allegedly": "the 31-year-old computer science graduate who allegedly attempted to assassinate the president of the United States"? Or is the allegedly only about the target, like, maybe one of the correspondents was having an affair with his girlfriend (oops, partner).

Casinos- the tax on people bad at math.

Or, as a wise man told me years ago "Casinos - monuments to the stupid".

Things being legal remove kind of remove the fun from gambling. I don’t care about exactly how the Failcons fail, just that they do.

A casino in NYC? Why the hell not. Just another opportunity to take a risk.

Wayne's avatar

Being NYC my guess is there will be first be some mechanism in place to determine your net worth and then to rig the odds more against you if your net worth is high.

Awaiting Kevin Spaceys review of the MJ biopic.
