Shell should not be allowed to buy BP. That monopoly would be too powerful and dangerous. The government picks and chooses the monopolies it allows and does not allow. Pay attention government leaders
Can one imagine a candidate who may well be the next mayor of NYC declaring himself a Fascist Democrat? One would understand that such a candidate would consider American citizens as being either Aryan or untermenchen (subhuman)? In reality we have a "Socialist" Democrat & if we take this to the final conclusion subliminally do we think he would advocate a Dictatorship of the Proletariat? He suggests eliminating the police which would lead to anarchy or perhaps replacement with Thought Police! We had a taste of that with the Obuma, Biden, Giggles Syndicate.
What I find extremely disconcerting is the unwavering support of this "Socialist" Democrat by Schumer better known as Chuck Schumer (I prefer something that rhymes with Chuck) & his idiot buddy Pie Square. Have they along with Ben&Jerry Sanders joined the Squad?
I think free buses and subway rides in 2026 will cost 8 million Mew Yorkers 500 per year. A family of four would have to come up with $2,000. These are back of the envelope calculations. Farebox revenue for 2025 projected to be about $4 billion. But I thought he said , “free”?
As someone who really doesn't care about NYC, this Daily email was incredibly misleading. "Mayor-in-waiting"...what is that? NOWHERE do you mention that Mamdani won the DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY. The word "primary" is NOWHERE in the article. Terrible reporting, and a little self-absorbed.
A note on Jerome Powell: When he ordered 3 cuts in interest rates just before the 2024 election to aid Biden, he lost his “neutrality” argument. America runs on debt management, evidently, and Powell and others have made our citizens suffer in the housing market, vehicle purchases etc. To needle Republican presidents.
LGB has nothing in common with the TQIA+. Trans activists glommed onto us in order to advance their own agenda, which has been nothing but destructive to the gay community, women, and children.
Thank you for this comment. PLEASE, everyone, read it. I am an old gay man, very old. You are correct and very clear in your statement. LGB and all of the added groups are not the same. As usual the "Progressives" used to the gay and lesbian community to advance their extreme agenda. The gay community has become a toll for the crazies. It is much like what occurred in the Black community. MLK asked for very little change. Simply open the doors, take down the barriers and allow us to achieve our goals and become participants. He did not call for DEI or discussing behavior of BLM.
The Progressives or whatever the hell we call that group ruins anything it touches.
I know; I was snarkily being an advocate for you K Stone! It’s like somebody saying that David Koresh represented all Christians. Maybe an old and bad analogy but I feel for you having to defend something that ain’t you.
Thanks, Jim! It's not the first time I've seen a comment like that and sometimes people are genuinely confused, which completely makes sense. But thanks so much for the clarification. Appreciate the support!
There have been gay people warning about the dangers of the trans movement since the beginning. But between progressives and the MSM running with the “poor oppressed trans” identity stories, no one could hear them. And those who dared to express concerns were swiftly met with viciousness and violence from that community. More and more gay people are realizing the harm caused by the TQs and speaking out. It is much safer now. Even so, be prepared to be shunned by people you once considered friends and allies. The price you might pay is ending up politically and socially homeless, which is how I made my way here.
Folks who dispel the notion that any group, Gays, MAGA, Black, Jews, or any one else has to see the world the same way as everyone else in the group. Maybe just maybe the siloing of folks is coming to an end.
Thanks, Lanny. When I first subscribed to TFP, I was shocked at the amount vitriol in the comments. You were the first person I noticed who consistently agreed with people in the areas you could, and respectfully disagreed with people in the areas you couldn't. I have always appreciated your commitment to doing so and your thoughtful comments. In your own way, you've helped keep here.
Well, you're a good guy and you have somehow found a way to rise above the political fray. I admire that. I live in Seattle so I know what you're talking about. I've also spoken out in small groups of people where everyone went silent. But later, someone would reach out to me because they had never heard anyone say out loud what they themselves were thinking. Democrats in particular need their base to hate anyone who doesn't agree with them. Otherwise, if people stop and think for themselves, the House of Cards they've built their political agenda on collapses. Just like it did for me.
That would make me happy. I’m an introvert yet I like people. And I DO care about culture, race, sexual preference, etc., so that I can learn new things instead of being afraid like so many appear to be.
I have always found that the more I know about folks from the most remote village in Djibouti to a barren town in the icy waste of Kazakastan, people are pretty much the same.
They want the same basic things out of life.
Far more unites us than divides us regardless of what the nattering political class would like us to believe.
Why do we need NYC? Seriously? I can see why we need California, but why do we NEED NYC? It's not like there is farmland in NY. Corporations can relocate to another state. Is it just for the cultural aspect of NYC? By the way, I'm all for Staten Island breaking off and becoming part of NJ.
I'm not sure how much longer Republican voters will be patient with continued Jewish support of the Democratic party. If Jewish voters don't care about their issues why should we?
Hope they don't abandon issues that impact Jews but you may be correct that many are getting tired of knee-jerk support for leaders who actively work against their interest.
Hi SSW, I implore you to give pause to this sentiment... #1 there are many "flavors" of Jews. Jews who supported Mamdani were predominantly reform or very leftist Jews who are just a fraction of most Jews. Despite the solid support of Cuomo by most reasonable Jews, the raw population #'s in NYC were not enough to tip the scale. Personally, I would be careful not to make a statement like "I will no longer support Christians" based on the way one sect of Christianity behaved -- I would still seek truth/clarity + right/wrong to make my own decisions. #2 many Jews' identities are solidly rooted in social justice + Tikun Olam (healing the world) - an identity which they have historically perceived as being aligned with the democrat party. Many are clinging to this self-assessment without having the courage to wake up to the fact that this party no longer represents their values and self-interest (and in fact have become flat-out dangerous to Jews!). It's taking many longer than others and I suppose it is possible that the democratic party will self-correct in the meantime (one can hope). My late father used to say that his "finger would fall off if he ever tried to vote republican" and I remember many years ago when I was a newlywed proudly having a "friends don't let friends vote republican" bumper sticker. My father would be turning in his grave knowing that a majority of his in-laws voted for Trump.
My alma mater The University of Alabama was just ranked by the ADL as one of the safest universities for Jewish students in the United States. In contrast, the Ivy League was ranked the worst. I know this paines the ADL to no end as they long for the love and admiration of leftist. I learned a long time ago, don't stay where you are not wanted.
"But can Lurie make his brand of “commonsense” Democratic politics work in such a progressive city?" Not likely with mentally deranged assassins popping up everywhere. 'Progressive' Democrats have little use for other Dems except during elections.
Because of their bs name, "BP." British Petroleum was, to them, controversial in every sense. They hate themselves and their product.
I get it. Oil is bad. But you know what? It's also good. And if you are in that business and you can't make that argument and carry your head high, then its high time for you to get out of the industry.
NYC with a budget deficit in 2025 of $1.5 Billion and on track to hit $12.7 Billion in 2028 it makes perfect sense to try and accelerate it to maybe $20 Billion through a new Socialist agenda. Surely the wealthy are eager to pony up a more fair share. If not, the city can just print more money right? Oh, wait…….🤔
“If socialists understood economics they wouldn’t be socialists.” (Friedrich Hayek)
Keep NYC Capitalist (KNYCC)!
Shell should not be allowed to buy BP. That monopoly would be too powerful and dangerous. The government picks and chooses the monopolies it allows and does not allow. Pay attention government leaders

Did TFP become the NYT all of a sudden? Need to get the news now from the comments section.

As to the headline, there are apparently a bunch of letters missing - all I saw was LBGT. I WISH Y’ALL COULD MAKE UP YOUR MINDS ‘coz I’m confused!!
LGB has nothing in common with the TQIA+. Trans activists glommed onto us in order to advance their own agenda, which has been nothing but destructive to the gay community, women, and children.

You bet! We would definitely have a laugh or two!
Yes we would!
Coulda fooled me.
I have gay family and friends and not a single one of them has ever made a statement separating themselves from the TQIA+
Indeed they have embraced it.
Good for you to be willing to stand apart and say you want nothing to do with them.
There have been gay people warning about the dangers of the trans movement since the beginning. What I like are common sense folks like yourself.
Folks who dispel the notion that any group, Gays, MAGA, Black, Jews, or any one else has to see the world the same way as everyone else in the group. Maybe just maybe the siloing of folks is coming to an end.

That is the kindest thing anyone has said to me in a long long time.
You cannot imagine how that touched my heart.
Got to admit that I have to constantly stay on guard to not let myself get sucked into the hate.
Some folks are incredibly mean spirited.
I try to the best of my limited ability to not strike back unless struck.
My daughter who is gay lives in Eugene with her partner and our youngest grandchild.
Although Eugene is off the charts Liberal I have always found the folks there to be considerate.
Went in for a haircut last time I was there and I made a remark to an individual who was railing against Trump and the idiots who support him.
When I told him I was a MAGA supporter the entire shop grew quiet but we all had a very nice calm and thoughful exchange of ideas.
One guy actually said thank you when I left.
I'm not sure why some folks seem to think we have to hate each other.
Well, you're a good guy and you have somehow found a way to rise above the political fray. I admire that. I live in Seattle so I know what you're talking about. Hang in there kid.
I find lots of good folks Left and Right.
We just need to not be absorbed by the hate on both wings.
And those wings - like people - are likely more alike than different I bet! This thread has been a refreshingly nice one.
Agreed. Thank you, Jim, for starting it off.
That would make me happy. I’m an introvert yet I like people. And I DO care about culture, race, sexual preference, etc., so that I can learn new things instead of being afraid like so many appear to be.
I am also an introvert! That's why it's been easier for me to speak out and live with the consequences then it appears to be for others.
I have travelled to and worked in 88 countries.
I have always found that the more I know about folks from the most remote village in Djibouti to a barren town in the icy waste of Kazakastan, people are pretty much the same.

A proposal I can get behind.
Well....THIS is interesting....

Sorry but 90% of today’s news and opinions are outdated and already known by most who follow the political affairs of the country and the world.
It is difficult to get ahead of the MSM in leaking the news.
An interesting point I have always believed:
Don’t believe anything the media press puts out and that includes the FP because we live in a society of clicks and money.
The FP should started with every news retort that this is not confirmed or if it is then name the informer so everything becomes transparent.
This is particularly important in your read the full story pieces.
Good luck.
On this we are agreed.

Why? No, not because of Deepwater Horizon.
Because of their bs name, "BP." British Petroleum was, to them, controversial in every sense. They hate themselves and their product.

The plan is most likely to have us, the US taxpayers, bail them out because, don't you know, they are "too big to fail".
That was tried about 40 years ago...and the US President told NYC at the time "Drop dead"
