Suzy Weiss went deep into the world of ‘cottage food.’ Plus: A conversation with Freya India about how the internet ruined girlhood—and if we can ever get it back.
If you’re on social media - any social media - you’re a fool being manipulated. Your brain is being altered in a lot of ways, none of them good. Your rationalizations for scrolling like a lower primate are indistinguishable from those of the average crack head.
The political women: I can’t tell the difference between Bezos’s wife, Noem, Gabbard, and the ambassador to Greece, and all those of their ilk. They’re interchangeable. Printed with a 3D printer. In Hollywood, many have ruined their individuality. Jennifer Grey got rid of her darling nose. Michelle Pfeiffer is unrecognizable. I’m old, and I find older women attractive. Young people won’t find the surgical changes attractive, nor do I.
As in selfies; all the girls do that pushed-out, pursed-lips expression (does this have a name?), like they smell something disgusting. I think they think it makes them look sexy and sophisticated.
We are fans of Suzy and her writing, but the topic of how social media are changing women begs the question of how many people are really affected by these trends. What percent of the population is even listening to, much less taking these influences seriously? Or is this just another tiny noise bubble in a world of a million cultures flowing by without noticing?
Sometimes we wonder about political types who bemoan the lack of interest from the general population in their polls and primaries and elections and fractured society scenarios. It reminds us of our 5-year-old daughter yelling “Look at me! Look at me!” as she executes her perfect belly flop in the swimming pool.
Does any sane person with better things to do really care? Or is all this influencing and politicking just mind chatter for the chatterers themselves?
I assume most of this is NYC centric. Besides a universal dread of AI? Just not feeling it much. We just drinking Cheerwine and spitting tabacky juice, down here in Carolina.
